Lo' and Behold

A bespoke varsity jacket, crafted to honor the star quality of George Washington graduate Tiny Lo’. Creating this one-of-a-kind jacket for Lauryn was both a project and a journey of collaboration and learning. Every step reflected a shared vision, from sourcing materials to developing the intricate patterns. Lauryn’s input and feedback were invaluable throughout the process, and the team was honored to partner with her on this meaningful endeavor.

The design process began with sourcing references for inspiration. A vintage shop provided the perfect starting point—a jacket with a collar and wrist cuffs that aligned with the envisioned style. Building on this foundation, the team extended the cuffs and paired them with slightly longer sleeves made of heavy cow leather. This design choice created a subtle ballooning silhouette, resulting in an elegant, unexpected detail where the sleeves naturally tapered at the wrist. To complement the sleeves, the jacket’s body featured broader shoulders and a cropped torso, creating a balanced and flattering shape.

Once the jacket's digital flat was finalized, the fun began—infusing Lauryn’s unique style into the design. Every detail was thoughtfully chosen to ensure the jacket felt truly personal. A symbol was needed to represent both Lauryn and her school, and after careful deliberation, a star was selected for its feminine elegance and its alignment with the school’s identity.

Bringing the star motif to life on the sleeves presented challenges. Initially, overlapping stars seemed like an option, but the thickness of the leather made it impractical. Custom patterns were also explored, but the sharp points of the stars proved tricky. Through collaboration with Lauryn and a skilled seamstress, the team ultimately developed a design that featured stars of varying sizes, creating a sense of growth and dimension.

For the jacket's color palette, the goal was to capture Lauryn’s individuality while celebrating her school spirit. After considering various combinations, a harmonious selection of colors was chosen to reflect both her personality and the ethos of her alma mater. These hues were seamlessly incorporated into the final design, ensuring a perfect balance of personalization and school pride.

The production phase brought its own challenges. Before construction began, Lauryn joined the team in cutting the stars from carefully sourced goat hide for the patches. These stars were then baked in the oven and treated with acetone to achieve the desired finish. The prepared materials were handed off to the seamstress, marking the final step in the creation process.

The result is a truly bespoke varsity jacket that captures Lauryn’s star quality while celebrating her connection to George Washington University. Every detail, from the silhouette to the symbolic stars, reflects a thoughtful collaboration and a shared commitment to excellence.
